The holidays offer plenty of chances to fill your social media calendar with quick and easy content. Not only are posts easy to come up with, but many of them offer you the opportunity to get your followers involved and hopefully increase your base of followers.

If you need some ideas of where to start, keep reading.

Free Giveaways

What better way to say thank you to your followers than to give them something for free? Giveaways are a great way to increase reposts and shares year-round, but during the holidays it sometimes feels extra special.

Plus, it’s a great way to say “thank you” to your followers and fans.

DIY Videos

According to Post Planner, “…consumers are 39 percent more likely to share your content if it’s shown in a video format. It’s also 56 percent more likely to receive a ‘like’ and 36 more likely to be commented on.”

A DIY video that shows your followers how to make a quick and easy holiday gift or card may be an awesome way to gain shares, likes and ultimately, new followers.

Recipes

Have a favorite family recipe that you cook every year? Your social media page is a great place to share it. Not only are you spreading the holiday joy, but you’re also getting people to like and share your post, especially if the photo you provide makes someone’s mouth water or stomach grumble.

Caption This

WishPond suggests a caption this post on social media. Post a funny photo and then ask your followers to create a caption. If you want even more interaction, offer a prize to the person with the best caption.

To make it a little more personal, take some funny photos from around the office or ask your employees to take some funny pictures of their pets. It’s a good way to share a little piece of the personal side of your business, while still getting involvement from your followers.

Ask a Holiday Related Question

One of the things you learn about people is they love sharing and feeling involved. Ask a holiday related question such as, “What’s your favorite holiday movie?” or “Best Christmas Eve tradition” and then give your followers a chance to answer.

Another good one, what’s your new year’s resolution?

This or That?

Along that same vein, a this or that post. For example, hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Marshmallows or whipped cream? Once again, people love sharing their opinions and this one makes it pretty simple for them to share. Plus, when you pick a topic that people feel strongly about, you’re more likely to trigger a response.

Photo Contest

Ask your followers to share a holiday photo featuring your product. Not only does it help promote your products, but it gives your followers something to interact with. Call it a win-win.

Share for a Good Cause

Share posts from some of your favorite local charities. Maybe your local animal shelter is holding a pet food drive or your local community center is holding a toys for tots drive. There are plenty of good causes to support during the holiday season and creating a post that simply promotes that cause is a great way to let your followers know that you’re a part of the community and you care.

Retweet, Repost, and Share

Don’t rely on yourself or your team to create all of the content for your social media posts. There’s nothing wrong with reposting, retweeting and sharing your favorite holiday posts of the season.

Thank You

The holidays are a time to show you’re grateful to your family, your friends, and your customers. Use a social media post to send out a heartfelt thank you to all of them.

Holiday Card

If you’re a little older like I am, then you remember a time when the site Jib Jab was all the rage. The site would take your headshot and place it in the middle of an animated holiday card such as dancing elves or reindeer. It was a fun little card to send to friends.

Consider creating a creative or funny card that can be shared again and again. You don’t need to go all out the way Jib Jab did, but something fun and festive that brings a smile to the face of your followers can go a long way.

All of these ideas are designed to get your social media account more reposts, shares, and likes. The more of these that you have, the more likely someone will think about following you or you might pop up in a search. It’s a great way to organically grow your social media accounts.

Happy holidays!
